Aim: How is blood circulated in the human heart? I. Heart Circulation A. Heart is divided into 2 sides (left and right) 1. Left side contains oxygenated blood and is split into 2 chambers.

a.Left atrium - Left upper chamber. It receives blood from the lungs via the pulmonary vein. pumps blood into the left ventricle. b. Left Ventricle - lower left chamber. It receives blood from the left atrium It pumps oxygenated blood out of the heart via (by way of) the aorta (largest artery).

2. Right side is split into two chambers and contains deoxygenated blood. a. Right Atrium – upper right chamber Collects deoxygenated blood from two largest veins (superior and inferior vena cava) Pumps blood into right ventricle. b. Right Ventricle – lower right chamber Collects blood from right atrium Pumps deoxygenated blood towards lungs via the pulmonary artery.
