Publications/Conferences Status TNS/TNS publishes 2700/1800 (?) pages; TMI is 1300 pages. NPSS conferences are strong, financially sound, and international. Challenges Make electronic review (on-line vs. e-mail) and publication work. Meet publication schedules; improve “on-time” performance. PAC Goals Plan and hold conferences outside North America. Shepherd TNS B journal through TAB approval process; gain entry to Index Medicus. Early availability of work prior to publication. Increase TPS page count. Expand Xplore access to Proceedings/Workshops.

Membership Why join IEEE? NPSS? Status NPSS membership is constant at 2950. IEEE members get a good deal on conference registration. In 2000, chapters formed in Paris and Kiev. Challenges A “Societyless” IEEE cannot be summarily dismissed. Transactions to conference attendees reduces membership. TCs need to submit articles to NPSS Newsletter. Goals Continue to expand membership/chapters in Region 8, e.g., Benelux section. Professional web interface/membership booth. Launch a Technical Field Award. Address the “member value proposition” in everything we do! --- brochure/retreat with Peter Staeker/Div IV

Finances Status NPSS is financially strong and we earned it. NPSS has $2.7M in reserves, about 2x yearly expenditures. In 2000, + $392k net income between conferences, periodicals, and investments; usually 2 out of 3 do well. In 2000, we gave $383k to IEEE to balance corporate books, so we broke even. Challenges “Deficit” budget at corporate and volatile stock market. Periodicals income is uncertain with IEL; it’s a business. To build reserves, we need to spend less or make more. Goals Maintain reserves at present level. Launch important initiatives for “member value proposition.”
