A statement is a sentence that simply gives information. It ends with a period. We call these declarative sentences.
My teacher is Mr. Gonzalez.
I live in Washington.
Yesterday my mom went to the store.

3. Question Who is your teacher? Where do you live?
A question asks for information. It often begins with the words who, what, when, where, how or why. A question ends with a question mark. We call these interrogative sentences.
Who is your teacher?
Where do you live?
Did she really mean it?

4. ! Exclamation The house is on fire!
An exclamation is a sentence that expresses a strong emotion, like fear, anger, or surprise. It ends with an exclamation point. We call these exclamatory sentences.
The house is on fire!
I am so surprised by your behavior!
Wow!
What an awesome story!

5. Command Bring me your paper. Please call your mom.
A command is a sentence that tells someone to do something, or to think or believe something. It can end with a period or an exclamation point if you want to make it stronger. We call these imperative sentences.
Bring me your paper.
Please call your mom.
Go to the store now.
Put out that fire!

7. Today’s activity: Fold/divide your paper into four quarters.
Select a picture from the picture file. Use a glue stick to glue it to the center of your paper.
Label each quarter with the following titles:
DECLARATIVE
INTERROGATIVE
EXCLAMATORY
IMPERATIVE
In each box, write 5 great sentences that go with your picture. The sentences should be examples of each type. Really demonstrate that you know how each sentence type is constructed.
