3 The course represents an introduction into the architecture of the New Century, making in parallel an overview of art history with particular emphasis on the interpretation of space in architecture, sculpture and painting from the Renaissance until today. Given the temporal extension of the program, different periods will be represented through their fundamental works. Brief Contents

4 The Hıstory of Art and Archıtecture II course main objectives are to: initiate the students in the study and analysis of architecture from history develop an understanding of the manner in which architectural production is always triangulated by the exigencies of the time and the location, and give students a more complete insight of how the history shapes the art and, at times, how the art shapes the history; develop the students’ ability to identify the basic features of the historic buildings, ensembles or sites, in sense of approximate chronological determination, their belonging to a particular regional culture and architecture and perception of stylistic characteristics and belonging to a particular style; increase in students the ability to consume and understand the artworks. develop ability of analytical comparison of the different artistic-architectural expressions and movements, taking place in different parts of the world at certain time-cuts; develop in students an awareness of the importance of studying art history and architecture, helping them to comprehend the history of art and architecture not only as a starting point in the preservation of unsurpassed artistic and architectural value, but also as an inexhaustible treasury of inspiration and knowledge that enhances the creative potential in the design of contemporary works.
