“The Significance The Lord places on ‘The Home’ ” The study of marriage, the family, and of home life is the study of the most basic institution of society. We must understand (and reaffirm) the basic Bible principles concerning the home if we are going to have any hope in preserving families according to God’s design.

Reasons to Study “The Home” Homes are failing – Many marry solely to fulfill desires of the flesh – Discovery of prior unlawful marriages – Unscriptural divorces – Spouses/parents neglecting responsibilities – Christians are leaving the church – Christians indifferent to work/worship of the Lord The church is failing to do as God commands – Acts 20:27; teaching on home and family, MDR

Proper Authority In Studying the Subject? o Matthew 28:18-20; And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen. If you are a husband or a wife, the word of Christ is to direct you (Eph. 5:22-33; Col. 3:18; 1 Pet. 3:1-7). If you are a parent, the word of Christ is to direct you (Eph. 6:4; Col. 3:21). If you are a child, the will of Christ is to be honored (Eph. 6:1-3; Col. 3:20).

Failure to follow the will of Christ in my home will affect my relationship with Christ! Titus 2:5; …to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed. 1 Timothy 5:8; But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. 1 Peter 3:7; Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered. See also Matthew 15:1-9; Jeremiah 10:23

The significance the Lord places on the home must not be taken lightly! For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the L ORD, to do righteousness and justice, that the L ORD may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him." Gen 18:19 (NKJV) Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it. Prov 22:6 (NKJV) And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord. Eph 6:4 (NKJV) … that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children Titus 2:4 (NKJV) See also Acts 7:22 & Hebrews 11:24-27

The Bible places great significance on “the home” God is its Creator. – The origin revealed in the Bible. (Gen. 2:18-25). – It was from that original home that all men have come (Acts 17:24-26). – Jesus referred to God making male and female, joining them together as one flesh, and referred to that as, “the beginning” (Matt. 19:4-6; Mk. 10:6-8). – The Bible also gives instruction for bearing children (Gen. 1:28; 4:1; 1Timothy 5:14). As its Creator, God has all authority over the home. – When men asked Jesus about marriage, where did He refer them? (Matthew 19:3-9) – Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. John 17:17

Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. Gen 2:24 (NKJV) And He answered and said to them, "Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning 'made them male and female,' 5 and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'? Matt 19:4-5 (NKJV) “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh." Eph 5:31 (NKJV) "For the L ORD God of Israel says that He hates divorce, for it covers one's garment with violence," says the L ORD of hosts. "Therefore take heed to your spirit, That you do not deal treacherously." Mal 2:16 (NKJV) See also Matt. 5:31-32; 11:5-13; 19:1-12; Mark 16:15 The Bible places great significance on “the home”
