SAT SAT Reasoning Tests Current SAT = Critical Reading, Math & Writing (Each test scored on a 200 – 800 Scale) Redesigned SAT (Spring 2016) = Reading, Writing & Language, Math, Optional Writing (200 – 800 Scale for each subtest – Evidence –Based Reading & Writing; Math) Cross Test Score – 1. Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Information on FAFSA helps determine eligibility for federal and state financial aid Applications submitted on or after Jan. 1st For Cal Grants, FAFSA needs to be submitted by March 2nd Attending college must have a FAFSA on file for any financial aid (including scholarships) Private schools may require an additional financial aid profile (CSS) – check with individual colleges for due dates.

Grants Money that does not have to be repaid Usually based on financial need Cal Grant – State Grant Program: Based on GPA, financial need, and other criteria – GPA Verification form due March 2nd Pell Grants – Federal Grant Program: Based on financial need

Scholarships Usually free money based on merit – good grades, high test scores, athletics, musical ability, community service and sometimes financial need Private National, Private Local, Institution SFHS College Center Publishes a list of available scholarships on an on-going basis (school website, college tab, scholarship listing)

Work Study & Loans Work Study - Both Federal & College funded = students who qualify are assisted in finding a job on or off campus to help pay for college. Loans – Money students borrow that must be repaid with interest.
