Measurement Part of observing our world includes being able to describe things in it. Measurement allows us to gather facts. In science we use the metric system – SI (System International). We use it to describe length, mass, volume, and temperature. length mass volume temperature

Length, Volume, and Mass The basic unit of length is the meter. The basic unit of volume is the liter. The basic unit of mass is the gram. We add prefixes to these basic units in order to describe larger and smaller measurements.

Density Density is a measure of how tightly packed the “stuff” or matter is inside an object. You find the density of an object using the following formula: D = M/V (Your answer will be in g/cm³ or g/mL) The density of water is 1 g/cm³ or 1 g/mL. Therefore, an object with a density greater than 1 will sink, while an object with a density less than 1 will float.
