1 Writing Strategies for the Medical and Dental Professions Goal: This course will offer strategies to help students communicate about themselves more effectively, as well as introduce students to well- crafted essays in related fields. We will attain course goals through: 1.Lecture on writing principles 2.Reading and Class Discussion 3.Workshopping and Writing Practice

2 Writing Strategies for the Medical and Dental Professions Lectures will provide practical writing help and useful strategies for approaching common errors Readings will be thought-provoking and will stimulate class discussions Class discussions will give students an opportunity to grapple with current debates Work-shopping will allow students to share their insights and to get useful feedback from peers

3 Writing Strategies for the Medical and Dental Professions Resources: A Troubleshhooting Guide for Writers How to Write a Winning Personal Statement Writing for the course will include: The personal statement An essay addressing debatable subjects The biomedical and public policy research project
