1 The Queen is Canada’s official Head of State. She is responsible for making decisions on behalf of the entire country. She takes her orders from the people of Canada. The Governor General is the Queen’s representative in Canada. Anytime she is not physically present in Canada, the Governor General will make all decisions on her behalf. 2 Stephen Harper is the Prime Minister of Canada. He was elected as a Member of Parliament in his riding, Calgary South West, but he was also elected by all of the members of the Conservative Party of Canada as the leader of the party. http://pm.gc.ca/eng/index. asp http://pm.gc.ca/eng/index. asp The Cabinet is a group of specially selected Members of Parliament who help the Prime Minister. Each member of the Cabinet has expertise on one particular topic. Cabinet members are known as Ministers. On the federal level, we have Ministers of Defense, Minsters of Education and Ministers of Health.

3 The House of Commons is the place where all of the elected Members of Parliament (MPs). There are currently 308 MPs, and each has a different job given to them by the party they represent. The role of the House of Commons is to debate and pass or reject any new bills or laws brought forward by the PM. They generally have several years of experience in their chosen speciality and their job is to voice their concerns and give their opinions on the bills and laws proposed by the PM and passed by the HoC.
