1 Passchendaele By: Deanearra

2 How Passchendaele started
There were 3 battles fought around the city of Ypres, the battle of Passchendaele started after the battle of Vimy Ridge might also be known as “the race to sea” the first attack started in October to November in 1914, The second attack was in April to may in 1915, And the third attack was in July 31 to November When the battle of Vimy Ridge ended Canadians went back home but soon after they returned home they were need to help fight with the British for the city Passchendaele in July 1917.

3 Map of the battle set up This map shows when and where the front lines moved when going into attack the Germans in Passchendaele. When the Canadians moved into the attack the ground was muddy and making it hard for the troops to move their stuff to the front. Many lives were lost to men falling into a mud hole and sinking to the bottom, some men could get out if calm enough and moved slow crawling out.

4 The Canadian leader at battle
Lieutenant-General Arthur Currie went to battle the battle fields to see what he and his troops would have to go through. He did not like what he saw for conditions and did not want to go. The 4 divisions of Canadian corps made lieutenant and his troops go. When he got there he relived ANZAC and paired up with the British, on November 6 Lieutenant Arthur and General Haig’s planned an attack to take what's left of Passchendaele. They succeed and on November 10 Canadians got the rest of the Germans out of the city.

5 The Britain leader at battle
General Douglas Haig made plan to take over the Germans area he got help from the Canadians, the prime minster of Britain was not very supportive of this plan but general Haig went with his plan. Once they started to go through with the plan the Canadians had small battle with the Germans all around Ypres once the big final battle came the Germans had less supplies to fight back and lost. General Douglas Haig went to the battle of Somme after that battle of Passchendaele. In that battle he got another victory and got to go home. Once he was back home he worked as an ex service man.

6 Why this battle happened
This battle started when the Germans were trying to capture other parts of land so that they can get supplies faster and have more bases set up to dominate others that try to come and take over there land or shut them down. Britain, Canada, and ANZAC (Australian, New Zealand army corps.) they came and attacked the Germans in small battles enough, that they moved away or had little supplies and could not fight back. Causing them to lose most of their battles.
