MRS. DOWNING’S EXPECTATIONS 6 th Grade Social Studies

Syllabus  Classwork assignments and projects are due on the date assigned. If there is an emergency and you need an extra day, see me to make arrangements. Late projects and assignments are deducted 8 points (a letter grade) for every day it is late and will not be accepted after 3 days.

Syllabus  Students should include their name and date on every assignment.

Syllabus  Keep all technology (cellphones, music devices, etc.) out of sight. If the teacher asks for the device, don’t argue just give it up.

Syllabus  Be in your seat when the bell rings. I will dismiss class, not the bell

Syllabus  Make-up work is your responsibility. All make-up work must be completed by the next school day. Refer to the “Absent” basket to retrieve any work you have missed or check the teacher’s website online.

Syllabus  An absence the day before the test is not an excuse to ‘miss’ the test. Tests are announced in advanced.

Syllabus  Homework will be assigned almost every night and it will be graded. But classwork that is started in class, and is not finished in class, is expected to be completed at home for a grade.

Syllabus  Cheating WILL NOT be tolerated. Plagiarism WILL NOT be tolerated. Lying WILL NOT be tolerated.

Syllabus  The three main expectations in this class are respect (not only for myself but respect for my teacher and fellow classmates), academic responsibility and daily attendance. Our classroom is a community so we must be respectful and courteous of one another.

Syllabus  Have materials ready to start class and be in assigned seat when the bell rings.

Syllabus  If the teacher is standing at the front of the classroom all students should have their attention focused on the teacher. Show respect to gain respect.

Syllabus  If the ‘community’ is unable to pull themselves together (positive attitude, prepared for class, and ready to learn) the teacher has full authority to change activities and assignments for that day.

Behavioral Consequences  Warning- after the first failure to follow a rule, students will be given a verbal warning.  If the student continues to disrupt, the student’s parent or guardians will be contacted.  If the student is constantly disrupting my class, the student’s parent or guardians will be contacted and given an afterschool detention and/or sent to Chill Out.  Next consequence will result in an office referral.  Severe disruptions from the student will result in an immediate office referral.

Bring on the Core Cards!  Good behavior grants core cards!  10 Core Cards= lunch with a friend  30 Core Cards= entrance into sporting event  40 Core Cards= entrance into dance (restrictions may apply)  You could also: put them in “the box” for Friday drawings  Save them for quarterly drawings  Remember: ASD, ISS, OSS, or Bus Suspensions prevents you from PBIS celebrations

Bathroom Policy  1. Students are expected to use the restroom when given the opportunity. I understand that there are emergency situations so that will be the only exceptions made.  2. If a student has a medical situation, please send a doctor’s note and the student will have more leeway.

Grading Policy  Test: 35 %  Quiz: 25%  Project: 30%  Homework/Classwork: 10%  Tutoring available upon request

Notebook Requirements  Place all items in chronological order (Syllabus, Expectations)  Notes/Handouts throughout the course (PUT THE DATE ON EVERYTHING)  Should be order like so: Pencil Pouch, Agenda, Math, Science, ELA, SS, Elective 1, Elective 2, Advisory
