E MPLOYEE HEALTH Health : free from illness or injury All HR managers employed in the hospitality industry should be concerned of unhealthy workplaces. Worker productivity can reduced because of workers cannot function properly at their job.

E MPLOYEE HEALTH WORKSITE HEALTH HR managers concerned about the health of their workers should directly address the following issues: Provide sufficient quantities of fresh air Provide a smoke-free environment Keep air ducts clean and dry Maintain effective equipment inspection programs Monitor repetitive movement injuries Monitor stress levels Make lifesaving equipment and training readily accessible Pay attention to workers’ complaints

E MPLOYEE WELLNESS PROGRAMS Means an employer-sponsored initiative designed to promote the good health of employees. More employers are implementing employee wellness programs to help employees eliminate those lifestyle factors that typically lead to personal problems, and thus prevent these difficulties before they begin.

E MPLOYEE WELLNESS PROGRAMS EXAMPLES Quitting smoking, nutrition and weight management High blood pressure control Weight loss, self-defense, exercise, and stress management The employee participation in wellness programs increase when the employee’s family members participate.

E MPLOYEE SAFETY AND SECURITY SAFETY – Freedom from the conditions that cause personal harm. SECURITY – Freedom from fear and anxiety related to personal harm. Potential crisis situations in the hospitality workplace: Vandalism Arson Looting Severe storms (flood, hurricanes, snow) Accident Suicide Foodborne illness

EMPLOYEE SAFETY AND SECURITY WAYS FOR EMPLOYEE SAFETY To minimize risks of employee accidents or injury, the employer of organization should prepare the safety and security needs to their employees. Ways : - Employee training for threat prevention - Increased surveillance and/ or patrol of facilities (for external threats) - Systematic inspections - Modification of physical facilities to reduce the threat - Establishment of standard procedures
