Express express- fast, direct, and often nonstop I sent the letter to my grandmother by express mail; it is the fastest service the post office offered. In the 1770’s Paul Revere was employed by the Boston Committee of Correspondence and the Massachusetts Committee of Safety as an express rider to carry news, messages, and copies of resolutions as far away as New York and Philadelphia.

cargo The ship is carrying cargo from China to the United States. cargo- the freight carried by a vehicle

taxes taxes- fees for the support of government required to be paid by people and businesses – There is local, state, and federal tax to be paid on different items and for different reasons.

colony/colonies- territories governed by a parent country; the name for the thirteen territories that became the original United States.. Colony/colonies

. sentries- soldiers who stand at watch for danger or for people without permission to pass… The sentry stood guard to not allow anyone to enter the building. Sentries

Liberty The Statue of Liberty stands and symbolizes liberty for all people. liberty- the right to act as one chooses; freedom from the control of others – The Sons of Liberty was an organization formed to protect the liberty of the English colonists.

Revolutionary. revolutionary- of or tending to promote radical,political, or social change… The American Revolutionary War (1775–1783), in the United States, was the revolt against Great Britain by the thirteen American colonies which founded the United States of America.

oppose oppose- to act against something or someone – The colonists opposed the British in the American Revolutionary War.

Patriot Patriot- a person who loves and defends his or her country; a colonist who was against British rule at the time of the Revolutionary War – The Patriots wanted the United States colonies to become independent from Britain.
