Combined Majors Pre-Advising PowerPoint

Benefits of Combined Majors Another option available for SOAN students is to complete a combined major in Sociology and Psychology, Sociology and Geography, or Anthropology and Geography. The combined majors provide students with a solid foundation in both fields and are ideal for students who like to consider issues from several perspectives. Combined majors are assigned to a particular faculty advisor in both majors. There is also an economy to the combined majors – they require fewer credits to complete than pursuing the two majors separately, while giving students a more in-depth background in the fields than a minor.
3
Sociology and Psychology The combined Sociology and Psychology majors teach students the skills to approach social issues, theoretically and methodologically, from individual and structural perspectives. Recent graduates have entered careers in counseling, non-profit organizations, mental health care, or social science research, and have pursued graduate degrees in sociology, psychology, education, social work or nursing.
4
Geography and the SOAN Major The combined Geography and SOAN majors can be completed with either a concentration in Anthropology (57-58 credits) or Sociology (66-67 credits). This option allows students to connect the organization of social life to the human uses of the earth and the environment. Recent graduates have entered careers in business, Geographic Information Systems, governmental service, and research, and have pursued graduate study in Geography, Sociology, or Anthropology.
