Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter (UART) Device A serial communication circuit used in legacy PCs and devices that operates at data rates from 75 bps to 3 Mbps Full-Speed Universal Serial Bus (USB) USB standard operating at 12 Mbps Communications Device Class (CDC) Driver Software loaded onto a PC to allow a USB-connected device to be treated as a UART device Vendor Identification Number (VID) and Product Identification Number (PID) VID is a 16-bit number assigned to a member company by the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) PID is a 16-bit number assigned to a USB product by its manufacturer Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL) Testing A Microsoft testing process that involves a series of compatibility tests for third-party hardware or software Recommended Standard 232 (RS232) Level Shifter An IC that generates voltage levels sufficient to drive UART-standard signals over long cables (up to 300 m) USB-IF Battery Charging Revision 1.2 A USB specification for charging USB devices -15V to +15 V Terms of Art (ToAs): To clearly define for engineers all ToAs used in the presentation.
