Inner Ring is the “live” ring – only these students are talking Students in the Inner Ring have the following options: 1)Ask a question. 2)Answer a question. 3)Pass. * After each student has had an opportunity to speak, we will have an “open” session – any student can speak in the Inner Ring. Socratic Seminar Rules 1)No talking over – the speaker has max 3 min of speaking time. 2)Ask a question or answer a question – avoid debate.

Socratic Seminar (Review) 1)After one round of Q&A, Inner Ring can have an “Open-Discussion”. 2)Outer Ring switches after 5- 7 min of discussion.

Starter Question (1) Yolanda at one point states how language is important for her – “I didn’t want to just be in the sack, screwed, balled, laid, and f---d my first time around with a man.” Does language matter when it comes to relationships?

Starter Question (3) At the end of the story, Yolanda throws Rudy out of her apartment, angry at his demands for sex. However, Yolanda also at this point has had many lovers. Q: Does our society place conflicting demands on women – that they be sexually “available” but also be “pure”?

Final Question (4) The last moment of “The Rudy Elmenhurst Story” shows Yolanda chugging the wine Rudy had brought to her. She describes herself, “... as if I were some decadent wild woman who had just dismissed an unsatisfactory lover.” Q: What is ironic, strange, or otherwise interesting about this last statement given our knowledge of her history?
