3 Assassination of Archduke Ferdinand (1914)  The assassination of Archduke Ferdinand was committed by 19 year-old Gavrilo Princip in the streets of Sarajevo.  This mark the beginning of World War I.

4 Christmas in the Trenches (1914)  The soldiers in the trenches were exposed to many things, such as, continuous sniping, machine gun fire, and artillery shells.  Mother Nature exposed them to rain, snow, cold, frost bite, and “Trench Foot”.  Although all of the hardships, Christmas day was an easy going day.  The Germans gave the British line a chocolate cake and a note asking to cease fir so they can have a concert. The British accepted and gave some tobacco.  In the middle of no-mans-land the two sides had soccer matches and talked.

5 The Battle of Jutland (1916)  Most anticipated naval battle in history.  Fount on May 31, 1916 between the British Grand Fleet and the German High Seas Fleet.  The conflict between the navies had been brewing up since Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany had begun forming a navy that could beat the British fleet.  Fought into the night after ships collided were in this battle off the coast of Denmark.  Battle ended in a draw but really the British won by winning as the Germans never jeopardized their High Seas Fleet.

6 The Battlefield Debut of the Tank (1916)  A new fighting vehicle was needed o the Western Front. Something that could breach an enemy trench. And the tank was made.  The idea was to have caterpillar track and an iron clad machine to combine, making a tank that weighted about 30 tons.  At the battle of the Somme, was it that 50 tanks were joined to attempt to break through the the German defenses but it failed for the third time due to the lack of effective tactics and mechanical failures.

7 Gas Attack (1916)  Gases were the worst of the weapons produced in WW1. “Its impact caused hell on earth”  The mainly used gases were Chlorine and phosgene, and mustard gases.  Chlorine and phosgene work the same and take the breath right out of you but the mustard gas burned its way inside your body though the moist skin areas. ( Armpits, eyes, groin, etc.) The Mustard gas caused much more pain and left blisters.

8 Death of a Zeppelin (1916)  Zeppelins were used for bomb raid and air reconnaissance. The first bomb raid was on May 31, 1915. The city attacked was London.  Despite being a big threat, technology caught up with it and was eventually withdraw from combat.

9 America Declares War on Germany (1917)  On April 2, 1917, President Wilson went to Congress to ask for a declaration of war against Germany  On April 4 th Congress granted the request.  The British showed America a telegram they received from Germany about the plans to become allies with Mexico.  By becoming allies with Mexico the Germans would fund the loss of the conflict of Mexico and USA, and regain their lost territories of New Mexico, Texas, and Arizona.
