Welcome to Kindergarten at Lakeforest Elementary

What does staggered start mean?
On Thursday and Friday we will have staggered start for kindergarteners. On THURSDAY all the GIRLS will come to school. On FRIDAY all the BOYS will come to school. On Monday, August 29th, all students will come to school.

Possible Changes Please be aware that we will be completing initial reading testing on Thursday and Friday. Your child’s classroom teacher may change starting Monday, August 29th. Your child’s teacher will contact you before Monday to let you know where to go on Monday morning.

Kindergarten Rules We raise our hands to speak We work quietly at our seats. We use voices soft and sweet. We are careful with our hands and feet. We are helpful, friendly, and fair. We take turns and always share.

Behavior Consequences
Green – Starting Point / Verbal Warning Yellow – Time Out Blue – 10 minutes of walking recess Red –Note or Phone Call Home Purple – Frogtastic Day You will receive a daily folder indicating your child’s color for the day.

Student Rewards Each student will have a sticker book where they collect stickers when they receive compliments from teachers and staff. At the end of each month there will be prizes for the 5 students with the most stickers.

School Uniforms Solid Shirt Colors: White, Black, Navy, Kelly Green, Gold (collar shirts only) Pants/Skirts/Jumpers: Black, Navy, Khaki No hooded sweatshirts or sweaters! Don’t forget that kindergarten is messy so you may want to go with the darker colors! Your child will need sneakers for PE. Refer to Pitt County Schools website if you have further questions.

2 Fat Glue Sticks 2 bottles of hand sanitizer 1 Box of Crayola Large Crayons (8ct) 1 Box of Crayola Original Crayons (24ct) 1 Box of Crayola Large Markers (8ct – primary colors only) 1 Box of Ziploc Bags (Quart AND Gallon Size) 1 Container of Clorox Wipes 2 Boxes of Kleenex 4 Folders with Pockets (Solid Color / NO Patterns/ NO Prongs) 1 Pack of Pencils (Thick Size for Kindergarten) 1 Pair of Round Tipped Scissors (Fiskars Brand) 1 Package of Baby Wipes 1 Package of EXPO Dry Erase Markers (4ct) 1 Roll of Paper Towels Bookbag (NO wheels please) Art shirt (old adult t-shirt is fine) Change of clothes (labeled in a Ziploc bag to be kept in bookbag)

The First Day If at all possible we would love for you to consider saying goodbye to your child outside the door. We want to build independence from the start!

Open House Please fill out the student info sheets at your child’s seat Don’t forget to sign the sign-in sheet You are welcome to visit all the kindergarten classrooms
