2 6:9 – “those who desire to be rich” 6:17 – “As for the rich” Being materially rich is not wrong and not sinful Desiring to be rich is wrong and sinful

3 1 st Timothy 6:17-21 6:17 – “As for the rich in the present set age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.” 6:18 – “They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share,”

4 1 st Timothy 6:17-21 6:19 – “thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.” 6:20 – “O Timothy, guard the deposit entrusted to you. 7 Believers Are To Enjoy What God Has Given Them Joy for believers is God’s design – All believers – verse 17 – change in pronouns – Joy starts and ends with knowing Jesus Christ – God richly provides – more than enough, overflowing Joy for believers is not from material riches – Joy in anything when we keep God in it How much do you enjoy what God has given you? Not asking – how much has God given you materially

8 Believers Are To Invest Their Material Riches For God’s Purposes Believers invest in God’s purposes when they use their material riches: – To do good – For good deeds – To be generous – Willingly to share

9 Believers Are To Invest Their Material Riches For God’s Purposes Investing in God’s purposes now allows believers to invest in future eternity – Verse 19 – “storing up treasures… for the future… laying hold of what is truly life – Matthew 6:19-21 Make godly investments – You can’t take it with you – You can take the results of using it properly with you

10 Conclusion Only a short time to live time here on earth for us to invest in God’s purposes – Don’t live shortsightedly or foolishly Make disciples – 6:20-21 – Guard what has been entrusted to you – Pass on what has been entrusted to you
