Culture is a society’s way of life that is handed down from generation to generation. There are many cultures all over the world.

Think of the world’s cultures as many rivers. Rivers sometimes flow into one another. This is called CONFLUENCE. Cultures do the same thing. Many cultures co-exist in all regions of the world.

The Middle East and North Africa has a confluence of cultures. Three Continents, Europe, Africa and Asia meet here. Three major religions, Judaism, Christianity and Islam also meet here. Sometimes these cultures cooperate and sometimes they have conflict.

#1. RELIGION: The Middle East is the birthplace of 3 main world religions. This can cause conflict in the region. #2. HISTORY: Historically, Israel has been part Arabic and part Jewish… both feel they have a right to the land. #3. RESOURCES: The Middle East has 2 resources that are very important. Oil is important to the outside world. Water is important to those who live there.
