Many adolescents do die prematurely. An estimated 1.7 million young men and women between the ages of 10 and 19 lose their lives each year Most of the deaths are the results of: Accidents Suicide, Violence, Pregnancy-related Complications, and Other Preventable or Treatable Illnesses

You are never too young to begin thinking about your health. There are many areas of your health that you can positively influence just by taking some healthful steps. There are many ways to prevent diseases or accidents by being responsible and avoiding risky behaviors.

Physical Health-- the overall condition of your body at a given time. Physical Health is determined by: How Well the Body Systems are Functioning Ability to Remain Disease-free

Mental Health--the ability to think and have normal mental function, resulting in the ability to participate in productive activities. Mental Health is critical in order to Having Fulfilling Relationships Adapting to Change Coping with Adversity

Socially Healthy: Have loving relationships, respect the rights of others, and give and accept help. A socially healthy person has the ability to: Build healthy relationships with family members Make and Keep Friends Communicate His/Her Needs to Others

Get regular exercise and eat a healthy, balanced diet. See a doctor for regular check-ups. Talk with supportive people or qualified counselors when you are feeling stressed, depressed, or have anxiety. Have multiple healthy relationships in your life.

Why do you think it is important for a person to have multiple healthy relationships in his/her life? Do you think your school supports the physical, mental, and social health of its students? Why or why not?
