Using the Wiki for Student Portfolio/Database ©2006 Lesli Smith and Moodlerooms, Inc.
2
As of version 1.5.3, work on a portfolio module is still in progress. The wiki works pretty well for this task, however. The only piece missing is the direct link to the automatic grades tallied in the Moodle gradebook, but that’s not really a big deal. Directions: 1.Click “Turn editing on.” 2.Choose “wiki” from the activity choices. 3.You will see this screen. Regarding Settings: Once you choose a type, you cannot change it. You can only change the effect of the vertical row settings. More details on purposes for type in upcoming slide, but this particular wiki is set for students to have private access to their portfolios. I choose to disable CamelCase linking for the age level I teach and their relative proficiency with wikis at this time, but with the right training, it is a faster way to achieve the paging effect detailed in the next slide. I also avoid giving students admin options just for the sake of simplicity, but older students may find these options useful. Lastly, notice that whatever you choose to title the initial page name will become its permanent title--no editing later. Tips: Avoid back slashes, odd punctuation, brackets, or parentheses as these interfere with coding. Also--notice that for clarity’s sake, the wiki title and the first page title are slightly different.
