Welcome to Kindergarten
2
We are pleased to welcome your child to our class! A good learning experience is built on a cooperative effort between parent, child, and teacher. We have high expectations for your child’s kindergarten experience. With your participation in and out of the classroom, we can look forward to a productive, creative, and fun year together. We hope you find the information in this handbook useful.
3
Transportation The first weeks of school will be a period of adjustment for all of us. In order for your child to be at the correct location after school, he/she will have a name tag with means of transportation written on it. Please allow your child to walk to the classroom on their own after the first week of school. (Children adjust faster if they learn independence quickly.)
4
Transportation Changes: If your child is to change from their typical transportation mode, we must have a written note stating how he/she is to get home, and with whom they are to ride. This is for your child’s safety and protection. We cannot accept your child’s word about a transportation change without a note.

LUNCH Lunch is scheduled for approximately 10:30 a.m., and is 30 minutes long. Madison School has a prepaid meal program. You can pay in advance for the week, month, year, etc. Each child is assigned a multi-digit number, which they will enter on a keypad whenever the child buys a breakfast, lunch or milk. Please send all lunch money in a sealed envelope or a Ziploc bag with their name, account number, and amount written on the outside. If your child will be bringing his/her lunch to school, please send things that your child will be able to open independently. Breakfast is $1.50, lunch is $2.00, and milk purchased separately is approximately 50 cents. Beginning in January, ice cream will be available for your child to purchase on Fridays.

We love for parents to eat with their children during the school year. It makes the student feel very special to have a lunch visitor. We ask that no parent eat in the lunchroom the first 2 weeks of school. (This time is for establishing our lunchroom environment and helping students get adjusted to the lunchroom routine. Thank you for your understanding.) Lunch for visitors is $3.50. Lunch Visit

Helpful Hints Please check your child’s book bag and notebook daily for papers and notes. Please be prompt in returning forms. Please put your child’s name in/on all coats, jackets, etc. Tennis shoes are required for P.E. Kindergarten children will get dirty at school. Please dress your child appropriately. Our school day begins at 7:35 a.m. Please be prompt in getting your child to school. Your child needs to keep a change of clothes in their book bag in case of an accident, spilled food at lunch, etc. Please make sure your child can use the restroom independently.
9
SNACKS We will have a designated snack time daily. Each child may bring a snack and a juice box/pouch each day. Water is available during snack time for those that do not have a drink.
10
Absences Please send a note explaining absences the day your child returns to school after an absence. Absences without a note are marked unexcused after three days.

Birthday Celebrations Party invitations can only be passed out in school if the entire class is invited. This is to save hurt feelings for the children.

I will be respectful to my teachers, my peers and to myself. I will keep hands, feet and other objects to myself. I will respect school property and the property of others.
