A fraction is a number that......falls between 2 numbers. Just like ¾ falls __________ 0 and 1: - 1 0 1...represents a division operation. ¾ =...can be seen as a portion. Meaning, some number “out of” another number. As in, the numerator (the top) “out of” the denominator (the bottom). ¾ =

Equivalent Fractions Because we can cut up numbers in many different ways, we can write equivalent fractions in many different ways: _ 3 == 4

How do you reduce fractions? It is to our advantage to write fractions in “lowest terms” because smaller numbers are easier to work with. The only rule to remember is to divide the numerator (top) and the denominator (bottom) by the same number. Examples: Reduce each fraction to lowest terms. 1. 9 2. 203. 12 12 32 21
