7 A Live World Wide Webcast for 2005 u Wish list: u Proposed date: Friday, 25 Nov 2005 ù Last day of SOS 05 ù Official Pirelli relativity challenge award u Time: from 4 pm to 00.00 CET u Three main broadcast platforms: CERN, The Exploratorium and a European Science Museum u Connections with HEP labs around Time Zones u Live Q/A sessions with remote audience from Science Museums

8 Scope u Objective ù To celebrate WYP ù Celebrate SOS 05 and its winners ù Make the public aware of LHC physics challenges in relation to Einstein’s unsolved mysteries ù To reach out to a world wide audience and media with an unprecedented live event u Targets ù young people >14, teachers, general public ù Participants SOS ù HEP worldwide ù Global Media

9 Main Themes ù 1 : 2005 WYP ù 2: Science On Stage and the EIROforum ù 3: The LHC, a world project

10 Programme Divided in slots, each devoted to one of the themes, see detailed table (Annex 1) for details. Slot format: 00.00Opening + handshake connections 00:05Intro local guests 00:10First Clip 00:15First remote connection and theme discussion with guests 00:30ENTERTAINMENT (Sponsors’ time) 00:40Second remote connection and continuation of theme discussion 00:45Q&A 00:55Over to next SLOT

11 Partners Technical (encoding, streaming..) CNAF Bologna, Tiscali HEP Interactions, EPOG (?) Other labs EIROforum Science Museums The Exploratorium, Ecsite network Other networks WYP, Schoolnet, Pirelli Broadcasters EBU, RAI, TSI Commercial Grid openlab members, 50th Anniversary sponsors

12 Technical requirements Platforms (CERN, The Exploratorium…) will produce their own show Requirements: local video team and equipment and high-end videoconferencing connection + expert. Simple remote connections (for Q/A sessions or guests) need standard videoconference system to get connected to the platform. Encoding, streaming and platform switching are centralized in Bologna platforms will connect directly to them

13 Connections outline

14 How can you get involved ? 1. PROVIDE VIDEO CLIPS RELEVANT TO THE THEMES 2. SUGGEST ENTERTAINMENT 3. SEND IN ORGANIZATION REPRESENTATIVES AS GUESTS OR PRIZE AWARDERS, BETTER IF WELL KNOWN PERSONS OR STARS 4. HELP WITH WEBSITE CONTENTS AND / OR GRAPHICS 5. OFFER ENTICING PRIZES AND OR CASH 6. GET CONNECTED TO CERN WITH EXPERT GUEST/HOST THROUGH VIDEOCONFERENCING DURING RELEVANT SECTION OF WEBCAST 7. ORGANIZE REMOTE AUDIENCE AND GET CONNECTED DURING Q&A SESSION 8. CONTRIBUTE TECHNICAL STAFF (video operators or similar..) 9. ACT AS A PLATFORM AND PRODUCE A FULL PROGRAMME FROM 30 MIN TO 2 HOURS.
