She has a younger sister called Pippa and a younger brother called James. Kate Middleton has no aristocratic or royal relatives. Her mother used to be a flight attendant and her father used to work for an airline.

She was captain of her school hockey team and was also very good at tennis. She passed her school exams with flying colours. After school Kate enjoyed a gap year travelling round the world -just like Prince William.

Her teachers said that Kate was 'a bright, popular and very capable pupil'. She went to St. Andrews University in Scotland to study art history. She met Prince William at university.

St Andrews University is Scotland’s oldest university. It was founded in 1413.

As a university student Kate was shy and quieter than the other girls, which William liked very much. She also loved playing sports, just like the prince. Kate and Prince William graduated from university together in 2005.

Prince William asked Kate to marry him in 2009 while they were on holiday in Kenya. Although Kate is only 29 years old, she is the oldest royal bride ever! Most royal brides in history have been teenagers. William's mother, Princess Diana, was 20 when she married his father, Prince Charles.

Prince William and Kate were married at Westminster Abbey on the 29th of April, 2011. If William and she become king and queen, she will be the 6th Queen Catherine of England.

Since 1837, Buckingham Palace has been an official residence of Britain's kings and queens. If Prince William becomes king one day, Kate will live in the palace with 775 rooms, 92 offices and 78 bathrooms.
