REVIEW STRATEGY FOR THE AP TEST USING UDL Chris and Ashley Schreckengost Montgomery County Public School - Maryland

WHAT IS UDL? Universal Design Learning Students are given voice and choice Students work self at their own pace

3 COMPONENTS TO THE REVIEW Portfolio – Student scored Mastery – Teacher scored Multiple Choice – Teacher scored with corrections

PORTFOLIO Students are required to earn a minimum number of point in each category Displaying Data Experiements/Sampling Inference Linear Regression Probability #6s

HOW IT WORKS? Problems are provided to students in each topic and they can choose what they want to do. Once completed, students self score the questions using red pens and answers that have been provided and pointed for them Students keep track of their points in each category until they reach a minimum number of points.

MASTERY Once a student earns the minimum number of points in a category, students complete a question for mastery that is graded by the teacher. If the student does not get a 4/4 then they must complete additional questions that are teacher graded. 2 or 3 out of 4 – 1 extra questions 0 or 1 out of 4 – 2 extra questions This is then recorded in the grade book.

MULTIPLE CHOICE Multiple Choice was mixed up by topic and difficulty level in groups of 5. Given as a warm-up in class each day and teacher scored. One point was given for each correct answer In order to earn back ½ of the points missed, students needed to write a 2 sentence response about why their answer was wrong and the correct answer was right.

POSITIVES Students work at their own pace Students get more practice where they need it Focus attention on struggling students Really bright students are not bored. Seniors actually do work!
