Integrated Image IU’s Visual Identity Guidelines Integrated Image IU’s Visual Identity Guidelines

Approved by the Board of Trustees in 2006 as a visual system that provides a consistent, unifying identity among all IU Campuses, schools, departments and other units to the communities that we serve. Four main components: Marks; Seal; Color; and Typography. PAGR holding a series of meetings to determine issues and concerns that need to be addressed. Small committee assigned to resolve concerns and prepare addition of new mediums that are not covered under current guidelines. Integrated Image Update

MARK 100% Compliance Exceptions Granted: Rare. ROTC. Challenges - Few: Historical by nature. Concerns: 1)Defining historical recognition verses modern-day promotion. 2)Struggles on when to use single IU mark verses campus mark. 3)Law School – Indy needs way to reproduce mark in name. 4)Need for additional spirit marks that can provide some creative freedom for merchandising.

Seal 100% Compliance Exceptions Granted: None Challenges - Few: Medical School desire to place on certificates for staff. Concerns: 1)Complete clarification in guide on what types of “official” documents it can be used on. 2)Uses of artwork that “represent” a seal without it being actual seal.

Color 100% Compliance Exceptions Granted: Rare. Can’t match Challenges - Few: Some wish to use “brighter” red on their websites. Concerns: 1)No guideline specific to how much printed materials must contain approved color. 2) Electronic and newspaper “mixes” don’t always match and no RGB specified. 3) Flexibility in four color process printing for printers if 5 th fountain is not available. 4) Better clarification on when and how secondary palette can be used.

Typography/Signatures 90% Compliance Exceptions Granted: Few. Indiana Clinic, IUF, IUAA. Challenges - Several: Named school issue, considerable desire to move Indiana University/IUPUI to tertiary line or delete entirely. Concerns: 1)Font does not replicate well on websites or other electronic media. 2) Differentiation of signature lines limits sizing abilities. 3) Embroidery issues. 4) Overall readability issues. Spacing, sizing, font. 5) Doesn’t work as a “logo” for schools.

Visual Identity Guideline Guidelines Positives : 1)Overall glad there is something. 2) Glad to have online version. Concerns: 1)Not very easy to navigate. 2)Haven’t addressed all mediums (social, merchandise, clothing). 3)Needs to be updated more often with current examples of items done “well.” 4)Would appreciate an easy to use desk version.
