Film Analysis

As the characters enter the panic room the music starts up again, emphasising the importance of the room. Loud, deep music which gets higher pitched and faster to increase the suspense. When entering the house the music stops, this increases the tension as all of the focus is on the house itself.

The sound of footsteps and traffic is overbearing, highlighting how busy the city is. A lot of the diegetic sounds, such as the panic room door shutting, have been exaggerated in editing, this enhances the noise, increasing the tension surrounding the sound.

Pans around the city, this establishes the location to briefly give the audience a glimpse of what will be outside of the action. The use of up shots emphasises the height of the buildings making the city seem frightening. There are no close up shots which detaches emotions from the opening.

All of the editing is quite slow, this is because the beginning of the film is unhurried with no action, so the editing should reflect this. It uses straight cuts so that when the tension is built the effects will make more of an impact.

The large staircase is used to show different perspectives, and the mirrors give a sense of wondering and an inner self, suggesting the characters are not what they seem. It is quite light outside, which contrasts the dark, shadowed interior of the house. There is no furniture inside of the house which makes it seem cold and lifeless.
