Bicycle Black Box (BBB) Christopher Kidd Anne Marie Carpenter Advisor: Dr. Wiley Preliminary Design Review (PDR) November 30, 2013 EEL 4906 Professional Issues and Engineering Design I
2
Introduction Project Objective: To provide bicycle users with a recording of proof in the event of a collision, theft, or other illegal event Benefits include hit-and-run identification and user sense of security with activated captures.
3
Design Approach Components: Accelerometer digital, 3D, +-6G, +50Hz BW Microprocessor Raspberry Pi B rev. 2 Camera 25 x 24mm, 1080p, 5Mp Storage Device SD Card to Pi AG
4
Design Approach Simulation and Design Tools Labview and PSpice Example pseudo code //Power switch initializes board #define //set necessary definitions main() { //set camera video quality and data specifications //code video buffer saves and dumps 2 minutes of data frame by frame //assign accelerometer values to desired bit rates, sampling frequency, g range, etc if (Accel_I2C_pin >= (trigger value)) { //copy current saved segment to ssd //save following segment to ssd after waiting 2 minutes } else if (manual_pin_get(1)) { //repeat accel statements }}
5
Action items Purchase Equipment Simulating a bike being hit Testing the sensors for sensitivity, deciding on “hit” values” LabVIEW simulation Program Raspberry Pi Prototype test on bicycle
6
Timeline: Milestones 1. Sensitivity Testing compared to bike hit simulation 2. Successfully program raspberry pi to recognize all inputs 3. Successfully saving recording footage after any sensor triggers raspberry pi
7
Summary Outside San Francisco: Transportation Injury Mapping System reported 83 Hit and Run Accidents in 2011
