Overview of Course This beginning acting course will expose students to a variety of theatrical elements Emphasis is on characterization, voice, improvisation, movement, and theatre terms One of the purposes of this course is to encourage students to let go of inhibitions and exercise right- brain activity (studies show this is so important to do, especially in our texting/video game current era!)

Overview (cont.) This course is a journey that will challenge students to take risks and step outside their comfortable “box” There will be emphasis on presentation skills, group collaboration, problem-solving, and improvisation (acting without a script) One requirement of this course is to participate in EVERYTHING possible, and not be afraid of “looking stupid” Students report increased self-confidence and presenting skills as a result of this course

In a nutshell… What you really need to succeed as an actor are THREE things: 1. Be open and willing to take risks 2. Be focused 3. Always reflect on your acting and listen to feedback

Expectations **Step out of your comfort zone! **Be in your assigned seat when the bell rings or you may be marked tardy **No hats, cell phones seen/used/touched during class, or food/ beverages (except water) **All CPHS rules apply **Support, encourage, and respect each other, the teacher, and the classroom (clean up your area!) **You will exercise your ability to laugh

Absence/Make-up work *Performance dates are VERY IMPORTANT! Do everything possible to BE IN CLASS for rehearsals and performances. A successful group (and your grade!) depends on each member being there and being prepared.

Grading Scale A = 100% - 94%A- = 93% - 90%B+ = 89% - 87% B = 86% - 84% Etc.F = under 60% *****Grades will be posted on Genesis*****
