Wednesday, November 4 th Take out your single replacement practice, purple homework sheet, and any other homework that needs to be checked off Complete the following in your notebook: Kidney stones are solid blockages that sometimes occur in the kidney. Calcium chloride and sodium oxalate react in a double replacement reaction in the body to form one type of kidney stone. Based on the reactants, predict the products and predict which compound is most likely the kidney stone. Write a complete balanced equation. CaCl 2 (aq) + Na 2 C 2 O 4 (aq) → ____ + ____

Double Replacement Lab Goggles on 10 drops of each reactant Looking for evidence of chemical reactions  Precipitate formation Be very careful not to cross-contaminate  Keep your pipettes straight! When you’re done  Well plate gets dumped in the waste beaker  Rinse it in a sink  Wash your hands and return to class – work on questions 3-6!

Announcements Tonight’s homework  Lab Analysis (questions 1-4; NOT the practice section) Quiz corrections due Friday Last day I’ll check homework is MONDAY I will give you your review guide tomorrow Test = Tuesday, 11/10

Solubility Rules Some ionic compounds don’t actually dissolve in water We use solubility rules to remind of us which ones do and don’t You do not have to memorize these Tape it into your notebook!

Double Replacement Reactions: A closer look NaCl (aq) + KNO 3 (aq) -> NaCl (aq) + Pb(NO 3 ) 2 (aq) ->
