1 Huge anti-war rallies hit US Thousands of peace activists marched on the street of Washington D.C., marking the 6th anniversary of the Iraq war and demanding an immediate withdrawal of US troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. Holding various anti-war banners and signs, the demonstrators of “March on the Pentagon ( 五角大楼 )” also carried some 170 cardboard coffins ( 棺材 ) covered with flags from various countries where they said innocent people were killed as a result of “US hegemony ( 霸权政策 )”.

2 Chang’an Ave revamp begins A 5-month facelift of Beijing’s main east- west artery, Chang-An Avenue, kicked off Friday night. The project will give the thoroughfare a makeover ahead of the 60th anniversary of the PRC on October 1. The repair work, which will take place daily from 11pm to 5am, focuses on a 12km section, and will be completed by August 30.

3 British family's world tour British man Graham Naysmith utilized the current economic crunch after his family, including his wife and 3 daughters, toured the world "free of charge," local media reported Sunday. The Naysmiths sold their house in 2007 at a price of £ 200000, from which they spent £ 70000 touring 19 countries in 2008. When they arrived back in Britain, Naysmith used the remaining £ 130000 to buy a new house, the same size as the former one, as housing prices had dropped.
