Presenting your traffic count data By the end of the lesson you will be able to produce a located proportional flow line map to show you traffic count data
2
Key idea The amount of traffic is supposed to be high in inner city areas. Large volumes of traffic would be “typical” of an inner city.
3
Blue location = Count all the traffic going North towards St Richards Road for five minutes (27) Red location = Count all the traffic going east towards Narborough Road for five minutes (35) Green location = Count all the traffic going south down Fosse Road south for five minutes (31) Yellow location = Count all the traffic going west towards Fosse Road South for five minutes (38) Purple location = Count all the traffic going south down Narborough road for five minutes (35) Turquoise location = Count all the traffic going North down Narborough road towards the city centre for five minutes (34)

Describing your data Point – Say what the map shows Evidence – Use figures from the results to describe what the graph is showing Explain – Explain what these results mean in relation to our coursework title. You can use the example below to give you an idea how this could be set out for each of your graphs… This located proportional line map shows the volume of vehicles passing each location within the study area over a period of five minutes between 10.30 and 10.35 on the 15.06.07. From the map we see that the greatest flow of traffic counted at the green location. 35 vehicles passed heading south down Fosse Road within five mintes. The location with the smallest flow of traffic was the red location. 21 vehicles passed this location heading south east towards Narborough Road. The map shows that the volume of traffic within part of the study area is quite high considering the time that the traffic count was carried out. You would expect to find a greater volume of traffic in this area during rush hour as this is when most commuters would be making their way to and from the city centre to work.
