Executive Director April Report Personnel Update Karen Mallett will be joining SEED’s BDS team on Monday May 2 nd, 2011. Karen is an experienced business owner, accomplished facilitator, trainer and writer Sharon is recuperating well and plans to be back at work on May 9 th. Sheri’s medical leave has been extended and she will probably not return until Fall

Organizational Work Planning for staff retreat is ongoing Preparation of draft budget projections have been completed & presented to Audit and Finance committee Word Guidebook has been developed for programs by EAL specialist based on past year observations. Presentation on partnership research have been planned for staff, partners and board

Partners & Collaborations SEED is working on a contract with ACU to develop a workshop and manuals for individuals presently unbanked Diversity Food Services has for the second year shown a surplus and decided to give all employees bonuses. 5 Focus groups with 35 of Diversity Food’s staff were held to introduce the idea of a cooperative Collaborative work with MB Cooperative Asso. (MCA) is underway to secure an instructor position at U of W as part of moving towards a Coop Chair. Neighbourhoods Alive Tax Credit announced

Partners & Collaborations SEED presented to Neighbourhoods Alive for “Money Stories: Grounding Aboriginal Youth in Lessons of their Elders”. Funds will support COTE and Aboriginal Senior’s participation. New Immigrant Credential’s Loan Fund may be part of national replication Yolom Mayaetik funds which were approved by MCIC fund are still in negotiation process on oversight role

Financial SEED has been selected as one of 35 non- profits to have all provincial grants combined and made into four year grants. This will mean less reporting time required and give increased security for the next four years. BDS grant has been increased from 235,000 to 250,000. SEED is in discussion with United Way to get training funds for Diversity Food’s new site Community Places grant was received for building
