Survey Approach Suppose you are considering a purchase of a new car. The car you want costs $20,000. You discover that it is made in an overseas factory that doesn't obey US environmental laws. Would you be willing to pay an extra $2,000 for that same car if it was made in a factory that didn't pollute? –if yes, would you be willing to pay an extra $5,000 for that same car if it was made in a factory that didn't pollute? –If no, would you be willing to pay an extra $1,000 for that same car if it was made in a factory that didn't pollute? You discover that it is made in an overseas factory that doesn't pay its workers a living wage. Would you be willing to pay an extra $2,000 for that same car if it was made in a factory that paid its workers a living wage? –If yes, would you be willing to pay an extra $5,000 for that same car if it was made in a factory that paid its workers a living wage? –If no, would you be willing to pay an extra $1,000 for that same car if it was made in a factory that paid its workers a living wage? You discover that the car was made with no American labor. Would you be willing to pay an extra $2,000 for that same car if it was made in America by American workers? – If yes, would you be willing to pay an extra $5,000 for that same car if it was made in America by American workers? – If no, would you be willing to pay an extra $1,000 for that same car if it was made in America by American workers?
