Dmitri Denisov, D0 Collaboration, ICHEP042 General D0 Authorship Guidance Since creation in 1983 D0 Collaboration went through multiple phases in it’s development: design, construction, data taking, data analysis, publications, upgrades. Authorship rules, important part of the Collaboration governance, have been developing as we grew up taking into account experience obtained and designed to support open and productive research General Guidance as stated in the rules approved by the D0 Institutional Board u The general criterion for determining authorship on any publication is whether that collaborator is a "serious" participant in D0. It is expected that all such members of the Collaboration will be authors of every physics publication. Withdrawing individual names because of a lack of close involvement in some particular aspect of the analysis will tend to undercut the impact of any publication and is therefore to be strongly discouraged. Normally, authorship of physics papers will be restricted to physicists, postdocs, and graduate students who satisfy the criteria listed below. These conditions can be taken to define what is meant by being a serious member of D0, and can thereby serve as guidelines for authorship.

Dmitri Denisov, D0 Collaboration, ICHEP043 D0 Authorship Rules Definition of “serious” participation in D0 u Time period: ~1+ year u Amount of time spent: ~50%+, but not less then 12 hours per week u List of “tasks”: from detectors design, to shifts, analysis and management Committee on Authorship u Periodically review author list u Work with each D0 group on addition/removal of authors s New lists are announced to the Collaboration every ~3 months Short term contribution u Option to become an author of D0 paper(s) for other experimenters or theorists Technical publications u Are not guided by the D0 physics papers publication rules u Usually smaller group of people deeply involved into sub-project “Retirement benefits” u One year after person leaves D0 s Or first five publications in Run II u 109 people will retire from the author list in the next ~6 months

Dmitri Denisov, D0 Collaboration, ICHEP044 D0 Authorship Rules - Summary Designed to provide open and productive research Take into account complexity of modern experiment u Long time scale u Large number of tasks Unite members of the Collaboration concentrated on different tasks Rules are periodically updated (last time in 2001) in order to adopt to changing realities u No major changes since original rules version Currently we do not anticipate considerable changes in the D0 Run II authorship rules
