3 1.ABSTRACT: The need for a more efficient transit system has led transit agencies across the country to implement Automatic bus Location detection systems. This enables them to observe, collect, and analyze location information about a commuter bus in real time and transmit this information to the transit management centers and passengers. This information give an agency the ability to make better and more informed decisions while also providing quicker response to emergencies. The benefits to the passengers mean better on time performance and less waiting time at bus stops. This work presents GPS based Bus detection device for the passenger for bus transit. It uses GSM/GPRS hardware and a microcontroller as the In- Vehicle-Unit (IVU) and provides a web based platform, a mobile application platform and an SMS based platform for communication.

4 2.OBJECTIVES: The specific objectives of this research work are the following: 1. Modeling of selected urban transportation system. 2. Design of a GPS based hardware. 3. Development of a mobile application to use the model. 4. Deployment of the developed system. 5. Evaluating the performance of the developed system.

6 4. METHODOLOGY: For any Bus detection device for the passenger system to work a mechanism to determine the bus location and a location display mechanism is required. The proposed model can be broken down in to two basic components: 1.A Location Display Components. 2.The Location Identification Components.

7 In the above block diagram we can see that the complete setup is for Bus detection device for the passenger system, in our project we are monitoring the bus location with the help of GPS and send the SMS to the concern person or office. In Bus RF Tx & GPS, will placed, RF Tx will transmits signal continuously and when bus reaches particular stop there receiver receive the RF signal from the.At the same time GPS module is reads co-ordinates and send to the concern person number which is stored in ARM with the help of GSM which is connected to ARM.

ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES:  ADVANTAGES: 1.The freely available GPS to develop several applications which are used to make transportation service easier for both the transport management centers, drivers and passengers. 2.Fleet monitoring. 3.Vehicle scheduling 4.Route monitoring. 5.Driver monitoring. 6.Accident analysis. 7. Geo-fencing geo-coding.

9  DISADVANTAGES: This program is highly sensitive to the environment.

10 6.APPLICATIONS: 1.Business process. 2.Warehouse and routing. 3.The project is used to secure and avoid the road accidents. 4.It can be used as part for automation of s or Public Transportation. 5.This system is used to trace the culprit vehicles by police persons. 6.This system can be used to ‘time keeping’ purpose in public transportation, such as departure & arrival timings, number of rotations each vehicle turned etc.

11 7.CONCLUSION: The proposed Bus detection device for the passenger system combines a positioning hardware, a communication platform that can be used to monitor and track a commuter transport in real time. This enables the transport management centers to observe, collect, and analyze location information about a commuter vehicle in real time. This data will give an agency the ability to make better and more informed decisions while also providing quicker response to emergencies. The benefits to the passengers mean better on time performance and less waiting time at bus stops.
