War in Korea!

After World War II, Korea was divided along the 38 th parallel of latitude. Communists controlled North Korea, and the United States backed South Korea. Korean War: When communist North Korea invaded South Korea.

The United States was willing to go to war to keep Communism from spreading to this area. President Truman sent U.S. troops over and asked the United Nations to help him. It was a hard fight, but North Korea was finally driven out of South Korea.

United Nations troops tried to go farther north to the Chinese border. The Communist country of China attacked them and killed many soldiers.

The end of the war In 1953, the Korean War ended in a stalemate (a tie with no winner.) The border between the two countries was almost the same as the original border before the war.

Opposing Alliances · In 1949, the U.S. formed an alliance with 11 other nations called the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). · The members of NATO would defend each other against any Soviet aggression.
