Lust Murder & Sadistic Necophilia: - Lust murders are those in which the killer derives sexual gratification from killing - abducting a victim and holding them captive for more than 24 hours is common, as is blindfolding, gagging and binding the victim

- in some cases there is no sexual contact, but the act of kill results in sexual arousal and even orgasm - in other case, the sadist sexually abuses the corpse of the individual that they have murdered

-The sadistic necrophile is not satisfied in merely killing his victims; he also wants to possess and destroy them beyond dead - Sometimes, the victim’s corpse is mutilated and the sadist drinks the blood (vampirism) or partially cannibalizes the victim (necrophagy)

- In other cases, acts of sadistic necrophilia occurs independent of murder - 42% of sadistic necropiles commit murder to obtain a corpse

-Typically, however, sexual sadists that commit lust murder record their crimes and they often keep mementos of the victim - some studies show that abuse of non-medical drugs is common (≤75%) - sexual sadists that commit lust murder are not a homogenous group

- lifelong difficulties with heterosexual relations and social isolation is also common - more than 50% had no previous criminal record and 20% were described as “solid citizens”

Sadistic Rape: - Rapists are not a homogenous group - Sadistic rapists are sexually aroused by the use of gratuitous violence and humiliation - Non-sadistic rapists are thought to use no greater force than is necessary to obtain victim compliance, even though the rapist’s estimate may be highly inaccurate

- Sadistic rapists are distinguished in phallo- metric assessment by a higher level of arousal to descriptions of physical, but nonsexual, assault on female victims -Non-sadistic rapists appear to be sexually aroused by the sexual elements of rape, but their arousal is not enhanced by the victim’s suffering or humiliation

- 5-45% of rapists are of the sadistic rapists - One study showed that a third of the sexual sadists studied committed their crimes with a partner - Typically one partner dominates the other

- When women are accomplices there appears to be a subtle process of seduction and transformation involving psychological, physical and sexual abuse before participating in the crimes -Some cases involve compliance over long periods of time and participation in acts of extreme depravity which tests the credibility of the female participant’s status as a victim

- one of the major complications in identifying sexual sadists is the finding that many “normal” non-offending, heterosexual males express sexual arousal to the idea of raping or hurting a woman

- In the general male heterosexual population, 30% report sexual fantasies involving tying up and raping a woman -16-20% of men who report that they could rape experience sexual arousal in response to sado- masochistic fantasies in which women experience pain

-Many young men are more sexually aroused by pictures of women bound and in distress than those depicting women that are smiling and co- operative -half of these report a willingness to engage in bondage, 30% in corporeal punishment (i.e., whipping, spanking)

- In a study of male university students, 35-60% stated they might commit a rape if they were sure they would not get caught - 2% of female university students stated that they would enjoy being raped -male university students estimated that 32% of female university students would enjoy being raped if no one knew
