EMODnet Chemistry: Next steps in the coming two years Alessandra Giorgetti (OGS, Italy) EMODNet Chemistry – First Expert Workshop, 19 June 2014
2
EMODNet Chemistry 2 - Workplan Executed in 3 phases: construction (months 1-12) consolidation (months 13-24) convergence (months 25-36) M1=July 2013 – M12=June 2014 EMODNet Chemistry – First year plenary meeting, 17-18 June 2014

The parameters are collected in 3 matrices: water column; biota; sediment. Schedule for the second year: –Complete fertilizers, silicates, organic matter, chlorophyll, dissolved gasses and acidity (M15=September 2014) adding recent data –Start contaminants in all matrices (M15) M18=December – robot harvesting and data aggregation WP1 Data collection and metadata compilation 2 nd year
4
WP2 Data Products generation 2 nd year Finalise DIVA maps for the first priority dataset: PO4, total Phosphorus, NOx (NO2+NO3, NO3), NO3, total Nitrogen, NH4, SiO4 in umol/l + organic matter, Chlorophyll, dissolved gasses, acidity – increase the spatial and time resolution February 2014 - start new products for additional parameter We want to discuss your requirements with respect to: – parameters to prioritize – year range for DIVA maps (start from 1980/90?) – time period for DIVA maps (10/6 years average?)

WP2 Data Products generation 2 nd year - Complete production of dynamic Time Series and Stations Maps. The resulting layer with Stations and Graphics will be integrated into OceanBrowser, - vertical sections properly highlighted in the OceanBrowser, - additional data plotting along (or near) the coastline to valorize coastal data (with classes of value), - CHASE Assessment Tool with EMODnet data in the North sea and selected pilot areas (as WMS layer) loaded into OceanBrowser, -Collect feedback from the Expert Meeting!
6
WP3 QA/QC - Validation - MSFD interaction 2 nd year Increase data quality with feedback from the 1 st circle of data aggregation and products generation (RL NODCs) Set up a data products validation process with local experts (regional leaders) and feedback from Expert WS group Dialogue with TG Data Complete the survey of data quality control (QC) practices as applied by all partners for each matrix aimed to homogenize and where possible improve the common practices.
7
Consolidation of the new architecture for EMODnet products Products generation workflow: NODCs Data Harvesting Central Buffer Regional Validation QC Buffer «On the fly»Time Series Maps Validation Evaluating possibility of cloud storage
8
WP5 Analyses and Recommendations 2 nd year On-going dialogue with RSCs September meeting with EEA, DG ENV to establish a link between EMODnet project and the MSFD process Working to make products that can be used for MSFD purposes Definition of the user panel and questionnaire to be distributed together with SeaDataNet, to collect specific feedback
