4 Some German verbs are very strong willed They do not exactly follow the pattern of weak or regular verbs They change with Du and er/sie/es

5 One of these verbs are sehen (to see) and lesen (to read) So what happens to the verbs sehen and lesen in the PRESENT TENSE? Lets find out…

6 Step 1: get rid off the INFINIVE ending: treffen Step 2: add the verb endings for I, you etc. Ichtreffe

7 Ichdu ersiees (I) (you – talking to a young person) (he)(she)(it) est ttt treffen

10 Fine, but what if I want to talk about my friend or my sister? No problem. Have a look at this: Mein Freund Mein Bruder Mein Vater = er (he) = ending t Mein Bruder trifft Meine Freundin Meine Schwester Meine Mutter = sie (she) = ending t Meine Mutter trifft Meine Freundin und ich = wir (we) = ending en Meine Freundin und ich treffen Meine Eltern Meine Freunde = sie (they) = ending en e.g. Meine Eltern treffen

13 So what happened to the verbs sehen, lesen and treffen in the PRESENT TENSE? All of the verbs had a stem change. With sehen and lesen an extra i was added to the stems seh and les. With treffen the e was replaced by an i.
