7 ACADEMICS Virginia High School League (www.vhsl.org)www.vhsl.org Must pass 5 Classes to be eligible Coaches will monitor academic progress After school academic needs are OK – get pass to give coach. Pass must include time arrived/time left.

8 FCPS PARTICIPATION POLICY Parent and student/athlete must sign and return Covers student conduct and the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. 1 st offense, 30 day suspension….2 nd, out for the season Hazing is strictly prohibited Must be in school ALL day to participate that day.

9 SPORTSMANSHIP Sportsmanship is all inclusive - Parents, coaches, athletes, students, and fans are expected to conduct themselves appropriately at all times We ALL represent Robinson Do not condone improper language or behavior Treat all opponents, teammates, coaches and officials with respect Wells Fargo Cup Runner-up 2014-15, Champions 2013-14!

10 TRANSPORTATION All athletes and managers must ride with the team Special situations must be cleared with the coach Driver’s insurance must be on file if necessary Driver/Passenger Permission Form

11 SECURITY Avoid bringing valuables Electronic devices such as cell phones and I-Pods should be locked up. Students must have a lock. Lock up EVERYTHING! We will do our part, but the athletes must do theirs! It is a TEAM effort to stop theft!

14 How many parents played high school sports? How many parents played college sports? Scholarships (Dr. Greg Dale – Duke University) 95% of athletes will not receive one. 65% of athletes are non Division 1 Your athlete has a better chance of getting an academic scholarship. If you do receive a scholarship the avg is $10,000 over 4 years. Ex. Soccer 9.9

15 Commitment to the program/team Communication: We do not discuss playing time/strategy Any concerns must first be addressed by the player. Athletes do not control playing time They control effort, attitude and what kind of teammate they are. We ask that parents not contact opposing schools directly with any concerns. 19 Assumption Of Risk There is inherent risk of injury in all sports Not all injuries can be prevented Even catastrophic injuries can occur in any sport A comprehensive Athletic Training health care program has proven to influence a reduction in the severity of injury and prevalence of re- injury.

20 ATHLETIC BOOSTERS President Meg Gaffney-Smith Introduce Booster Board Members Goal of 100% membership for each program Parent liaison for each team Volunteering is vital! Support ALL the teams!

21 The Booster Club is run by a Board of Directors, who work closely with the Director of Student Activities and his staff. We supplement the school’s efforts to purchase equipment for all our students to use. Our financial contribution is directly related to the amount of participation we receive from you. 22 The budget received from Fairfax County Public Schools only covers coaches’ salaries, athlete’s transportation and the officials at each event. All other funds are raised by us; the parents and students of Robinson.

23 Fundraising takes place year round in a variety of ways. The amount we raise directly impacts the equipment and facilities available to your child as a student athlete.

32 As you see, the list goes on and on. Approximately 1,200 athletes use the equipment and facilities each year, so through normal wear and tear, these need to be replaced or upgraded. New pads

33 In addition to maintaining our annual current level of commitment, the Athletic Boosters have embarked on a long term plan which will improve the facilities of Robinson Secondary. Many of these upgrades will provide additional opportunities to raise funds for our students, athletes and community use groups.
