4 Dividing Two Rational Numbers The quotient of two numbers having the same sign is positive. The quotient of two numbers having the opposite sign is negative. (+)(+) = +(-)(+) = - (-) (-) = +(+)(-) = -

5 Count the negatives A good rule to use when dividing rational numbers: Count the number of negative numbers being multiplied: If the number is even the product is positive (+) (two negatives cancel each other out) If the number is odd the product is negative (-)
