Gustar, interesar, aburrir Expressing likes and dislikes

Gustar Gustar = to like or to be pleasing to You will only use this verb in the 3rd person – gusta (singular) or gustan (plural). It is used with an indirect object pronoun and is conjugated according to what is liked, not who likes it. You add pronouns to tell who it is pleasing to. Me = to meNos = to us Te = to youOs = to you all Le = to him/herLes = to them, you all

Gustar - to be pleasing to Use GUSTA when the word after it is singular. Use GUSTAN when the word after it is plural. A mí me gusta el fútbol. Soccer is pleasing to me/I like soccer No me gustan los deportes. Sports are not pleasing to me/I don’t like sports

Gustar - to be pleasing to To say that you like to do something: use GUSTA + INFINITIVE Me gusta jugar béisbol Me gusta cantar Me gusta escribir

When giving the name of the person who likes something, add “a” before their name. Example: A Karen le gusta bailar Karen likes dancing To say someone does not like something, insert the word no before the indirect object pronoun (me, te, le, nos, os, les). A él no le gusta cantar He doesn’t like to sing

To emphasize who likes what, use the following constructions: A mi me gusta(n)… I like… A ti te gusta(n)… You (informal, singular) like… A él/ella/usted le gusta(n)… He/she likes…/you (formal, singular) like… A nosotros/as nos gusta(an)… We like… A vosotros/as os gusta(an)… You (informal, plural) like… A ellos/ellas/ustedes les gusta(an)… They like…/ You (plural) like…

Gustar (A mí) Me gusta la casa The house is pleasing to me (A mí) Me gustan las casas The houses are pleasing to me (A ti) Te gusta el béisbol Baseball is pleasing to you (A ti) Te gustan los libros. Books are pleasing to you (A él/ella) Le gusta la revista. The magazine is pleasing to him/her (A él/ella) Le gustan los periodicos. The newspapers are pleasing to him/her

Gustar (A nosotros) Nos gusta la escuela The school is pleasing to us (A nosotros) Nos gustan los videos. The videos are pleasing to us (A vosotros) Os gusta el perro The dog is pleasing to you all (A vosotros) Os gustan los perros The dogs are pleasing to you all (A ellos) Les gusta el baloncesto. Basketball is pleasing to them. (A ellos) Les gustan los partidos. The games are pleasing to them.

Interesar y aburrir The verbs Interesar (to be interesting) and Aburrir (to be boring) also work the same way. Interesar = to be interesting. You will only use the forms INTERESA and INTERESAN Aburrir = to be boring. You will only use the forms ABURRE and ABURREN. Me interesan los deportes Me aburren las matemáticas. Te interesa la escuela. Te aburre la tarea.
