Harold Godwinson - Anglo-Saxon, Earl of Wessex -Shipwrecked on the coast of Normandy -Taken prisoner - life was spared by William -Friendship established= OATH OF LOYALTY - Fought battles together, Harold was a great military man - Went back to England and accept the throne from Edward the Confessor. -Broke the oath of loyalty to William, as William claimed he was to take the throne

Pre Battle - William built ships to carry horses, knights armour, food, servants and men across the English Channel to dock at Hastings -Harold was busy up north in York battling a Viking invasion led by the King of Norway- Harold Hardrada. - Williams large feast

Battle of Hastings - Harold’s military defeated Harold Hardrada. -Rushed down to Hastings to fights Williams military -Tired and in need of resources the battle lasted all day with William’s men ending in victory -King Harold dies in battle. -William is Crowned king of England on December 25 th in London. -established a new social hierarchy with the monarch as the true leader, nobility, and serfs/freeholders -Established the feudal system
