9 VIPONAIR Europe’s first fully accessible internet radio station for the blind Launched in 2003 Developed by Glasgow City Council, Royal National Institute for the Blind, BBC Services include immediate availability of newspapers instead of 2-3 days wait for audio tape. 12 WIRELESS STRATEGY Many public/private initiatives but ad-hoc. No city-wide strategy to date Glasgow business community early adopters Wireless Steering Group (Public/Private) established to deliver a wireless Glasgow strategy – first consultative draft May 2006 –Wireless city centre –Positive planning policies –Access to public infrastructure –Public sector initiatives (Bus Information and signalling, mobile close circuit TV)
