Units and Measurements Text Pgs. 32 - 35 SI – system of units used internationally Base unit – system of measurement based on an object or event in physical world. time, length, mass, temperature Your turn Copy Table 2.1 on Page 33 into your notebook

Temperature Measurement of the average kinetic energy of the particles which make up an object. Fahrenheit Water boils at 212 F Water freezes at 32 F Celsius Water boils at 100 C Water freezes at 0 C

Kelvin All particles at their lowest possible energy state Water boils at 373.15 K Water freezes at 273.15 K

How to convert between Fahrenheit, Celsius and Kelvin Convert between Fahrenheit and Celsius F = 1.8(⁰C) + 32 To convert from Fahrenheit to Celsius all you have to do is put the Celsius temperature into the equation. If it is 22 C⁰ what is in ⁰F? ⁰F = 1.8(22) + 32 ⁰F = 39.6 + 32 ⁰F = 71.6

Convert Fahrenheit to Celsius It is 100⁰ F how warm is it in Celsius? C = F - 32 1.8 C = 100 – 32 1.8 37.7 = ⁰C

Your chance to practice 21⁰C = ⁰F 100⁰C = ⁰F ⁰C = 90⁰F

Converting to Kelvin To convert from Celsius to Kelvin You add 273 to the Celsius temperature To convert from Kelvin to Celsius You subtract 273
