Structure of the Testis
Surrounded by the tunica albuginea – a tough, white, fibrous capsule that encloses each testicle Septa divide each testicle into about 250 lobules Each lobule contains 1-4 highly coiled seminiferous tubules that give rise to sperm Interstitial cells lie in between seminiferous tubules and secrete male sex hormones Rete Testis

Cat Urinary System EVERYONE should do the following dissections:
Visualize the kidneys and ureters in situ and their relationship to the peritoneum Dissect away the peritoneum on one side, and isolate the kidneys and ureters, following the ureters as they enter the urinary bladder In male cats, visualize the relationship between the ductus deferens and the ureter, being very careful not to tear or cut either one Locate the renal artery and vein Remove one kidney Leave a length of renal artery/vein and ureter intact Make a longitudinal section through the kidney Visualize the cortex, medulla, renal pelvis, and upper ureter Locate the urinary bladder After draining the bladder if it was full, make a coronal section through the bladder and visualize the detrusor muscle, trigone, and entrance of the ureters
12
Cat Reproductive System
EVERYONE should do the following dissections: Female cats Locate the ovarian and suspensory ligaments Locate the ovaries, ovarian (Fallopian) tubes Locate and visualize the horn and body of uterus Locate and visualize the vagina and its connection to the urethra. Locate and visualize the urethral orifice, clitoris, and labia majora Male cats Visualize the relationship between the ureters and the vas deferens Locate the spermatic cord Dissect away the scrotum to reveal the testes Dissect away as much tissue as possible to trace the path of the ductus deferens through the spermatic cord into the abdominal cavity Locate the penis, and dissect away as much skin as possible to reveal its internal structure

Cat Dissection Lab Today
Do the following in Hole’s Lab Manual BEFORE you start the cat reproductive system dissection Read Exercise 50 (Human Male) Read Exercise 51 (Human Female) Once you are generally familiar with the human reproductive structures Exercises 58,59 (Cat urinary and reproductive systems) Be sure to look at torso model and individual reproductive systems models for both male and female Don’t rush your dissection!
