Global warming in Evros by Greek team
2
2 Some observations… Even though we live in a rural area and there are no big industries or big amount of vehicles, environmental problems exist and all of them came from human activities which contribute to the “Global Warming” phenomenon. On the other hand, in Greece, we do not recycle anything!!!!

3 Water pollution In our area there are rivers, small streams and water channels. In many places the water is not potable any more and people buy water to drink. Waste, pesticides, fertilizers and many other chemical substances pollute the water. Because of fertilizers the vegetation in rivers and streams is increasing (eutrophication)

10 Bad management of water Farmers need a lot of water to irrigate their fields. There is a big irrigation network in Evros but there are not dams to manage water properly In addition to the climate changes some times we have lack of water (droughts) and some times we have a lot of water (big floods).

16 Dumps (without control) A big problem in Greece and especially in our area are the rubbish. Everywhere are dumps and rubbish burn every day without control. This cause a big damage to the underground waters and to the air.

17 Recycling, where are you??? Unfortunately in our area (and maybe in our country) we have lack of any serious efforts for recycling We still put all together our rubbish (glass, aluminum, paper, plastic etc…) In our school we’ve started to recycle batteries!!!
